Olares One Not Responding

Hey there!

We have been chatting back and forth on Kickstarter. I have some good news. So, I recently attached the keyboard and power on the Olaris One box, and I was able to see the Ubuntu login screen. I was also able to SSH into the machine and get the logs file for you. So, right now, I will leave the Olaris one running overnight and we will see, or I will monitor in the morning, and I will also get you feedback in the morning as well. I hope there is no hardware failure. I also used another AI to diagnose this issue and give me below summary to send you guys.

"My Olares One repeatedly hard-freezes, including while idle at the Ubuntu login screen. During the failure, ping, SSH, Olares/LarePass, keyboard, and HDMI all become unresponsive, while the power LED and fans remain on. A forced power cycle is required.

After reboot, CPU, RAM, temperatures, GPU, NVMe, and PCIe checks appear normal, with no NVIDIA Xid, kernel panic, thermal, storage, or PCIe errors found. However, boot logs show temporary unhealthy GPU allocation, repeated

nvidia-powerd

JPAC errors, and a failing

k8s-certs-renew

service expecting kubeadm files on a K3s system.

I collected the official Olares support logs. Please advise whether this is a known software/firmware issue, whether BIOS/EC updates are needed, or whether the unit should be considered for warranty replacement."

I’m sorry for the poor experience this has caused.

The nvidia-powerd warnings you mentioned are normal and can be safely ignored.

We haven’t previously received reports of the device randomly freezing when idle, so we’d like to understand more about your situation.

Could you describe the system load when the freeze happened? In some cases, under heavy load, Olares may behave similarly to Kubernetes and evict applications. During that process, the system can become temporarily unstable.

Also, in version 1.12.5, we saw cases where users had installed many LLM apps and called them at the same time, which could potentially cause the Linux system to freeze. In theory, version 1.12.6 adds restrictions around LLM app installation to reduce this risk.

I’d suggest the following:

  1. Upgrade to version 1.12.6.
  2. Update the BIOS and EC firmware:
Manage BIOS and EC | Olares Docs
  3. If the device freezes again, after rebooting, please collect the logs and send them to [email protected].

If this turns out to be a random hardware-related issue, we’ll arrange a replacement device for you as soon as possible.
